Backpacking and Hot Springs
After a hearty dinner at our favorite place (In & Out Burger) we headed about an hour South to "3 Forks River." Upon our arrival, we were surprised to find several other people congregating in the parking lot of the trail head. Some were packing up to leave and others were preparing for the 2.5 mile hike. Unfortunately a "No Overnight Camping" sign marked the beginning of the trail, so we drove the car about a half a mile back down the road and parked it in a camp ground parking lot (just to be safe). The hike was mellow and scenic and It took about an hour before we came across another group of people camping along the river. We gave brief introductions and continued along the trail to find a camp spot.
After setting up camp, we discovered we were missing a precious pack of hot dogs....this situation was set aside because we were too excited to finally get into the springs. We changed into our bathing suits, gathered cold drinks and power walked down the trail to the hot springs. Soon, we found out selves staring into a huge fire, built upon rocks surrounded by springs. We chose a pool and relaxed for at least 2 hours under the stars.
The next morning, we awoke chilled by the mountain air and were ready to swim again. To our dismay, the hot dogs were still missing and Wes was convinced the other campers had stolen them.
The afternoon was very warm and the sun was beaming! (Good thing I am white as a ghost and always remember the SPF). Throughout the afternoon we tested every hot spring. We packed up camp around 3:30 and hiked back to the car, where we were sure the hot dogs must have been. Sadly they were still M.I.A. All in all the trip was a great success! Its so cool to have the chance to swim in natural hot springs. The pictures can not even do justice on how beautiful the place really was. But what really happened to our hot dogs!?
